Just Jim – A Decade when Money and Reputation Crashed: Northern Governance

Ten years ago the North East voted against a regional assembly. It led to the end of regional policy as an instrument to regenerate the north. Politicians have placed their faith in the power of cities to drive the northern economy supported by Local Enterprise Partnerships. The concept of elected mayors has not become widespread, although it seems to be working in Liverpool.

How the North is governed, particularly after Scottish independence or enhanced devolution remains a question to be resolved.
